We discussed hardware options for someone who had written in about wanting to game on a laptop. We discussed a number of options on the stream and the person asking the question wrote a reply email I wanted to share here. Hopefully we can continue the discussion.
Follow up email. Thank you for all the suggestions on the HP Zbook g3. You guys brought up some great questions that I’m asking myself now. My bad, I should have told you in my first email that I do have a gaming system. I built in 2013. Intel i7 3820(socket 2011), Evga X79 FTW(Horrible MB out of the box) I’ll never buy evga mb again. I took a gamble with horrible reviews. 16gb of ddr3 gskill ram, 120gb Samsung Evo SSD, Windows 10 Pro, 500gb Samsung Evo SSD(for steam games), corsair 850 psu, and MSI Radeon RX 480 Armor 4gb OC.
Ok. My thoughts are going to use the HP Zbook, eGPU box(Prob Razor one you suggested), and my rx 480 as a temp solution until I have money to built a new rig. My old systems is heavy and big(Monster Like). The wife doesn’t like it in the living room taking up space in our apartment. So my thought are HP zbook since it has better specs than my gaming pc. Newer generation i7 cpu, DDR4 ram, M.2 slot, and thunderbolt 3. Laptop is better than my gaming rig right? I only game about 2 to 3 hrs a week “if” I get time. Plans to build new small portable gaming rig in about 5 years.
Other thoughts sell my parts of my 2013 gaming rig and buy a better use gpu card with the money it get. Does this make sense or am I crazy? Which AMD card should I go with?
Thanks again for doing the audio version of podcast. You guys are AMAZING!
